244 - Logical volume management(LVM)

Logical volume management(LVM) provides a higher-level view of the disk storage on a computer system than the traditional view of disks
and partitions. This gives the system administrator much more flexibility in allocating storage to applications and users.

Storage volumes created under the control of the logical volume manager can be resized and moved around
almost at will, although this may need some upgrading of file system tools.

243 - VMware ESX VIB (Package)

VMware uses a file package called a VIB (VMware Installation Bundle) as the mechanism for installing or upgrading software packages on an ESX server.
The file may be installed directly on an ESX server from the command line, or through the VMware Update Manager (VUM).

For new installs, you should perform the following steps :

1.Copy a package

242 - ORA-00845 When Starting Up An 11g Instance With AMM Configured

On a Linux system, trying to start up an 11g instance could fail with the following error :

ORA-00845: MEMORY_TARGET not supported on this system

Iin terms of 11g, MEMORY_TARGET is used instead of SGA_TARGET and MEMORY_MAX_TARGET is used instead of
Also please confirm that ORACLE_HOME is set correctly, this error sometimes happens when it's not set correctly.

It uses /dev/shm on Linux. If max_target set over /dev/shm size, you get the error messages ORA-00845 as well.

1. Size on /dev/shm

241 - Auto Memory Management (AMM)

MEMORY_TARGET specifies the Oracle system-wide usable memory. The database tunes memory to the MEMORY_TARGET value,
reducing or enlarging the SGA and PGA as needed.

MEMORY_MAX_TARGET specifies the maximum value to which a DBA can set the MEMORY_TARGET initialization parameter.
See the description of MEMORY_TARGET for more information about how the settings of MEMORY_MAX_TARGET and
MEMORY_TARGET affect each other.

240 - iSCSI on Linux Server

Internet SCSI (iSCSI) is a network protocol s that allows you to use of the SCSI protocol over TCP/IP networks.
It is an alternative to Fibre Channel-based SANs, easily manage, mount and format iSCSI Volume under Linux.
It allows getting access to a SAN storage over the Ethernet network.

* iSCSI target (server)

239 - One Channel bonding for multiple ethernet cards

Red Hat Enterprise Linux allows administrators to bind NICs together into a single channel using the bonding kernel module and a special network interface,
called a channel bonding interface. Channel bonding enables two or more network interfaces to act as one, simultaneously increasing the bandwidth
and providing redundancy. "bonding" should be configured in kernel level.

1. Edit /etc/modprobe.conf( or /etc/modules.conf) to configure bonding

* File /etc/modules.conf is configuration file for loading kernel modules.

238 - Navisphere diagnosis on SP

< EMC Storage Management Soft >

  1. Log into Navisphere GUI.
  2. Right click on SPA. Choose SPCollect. This can take up to 5 minutes to complete even though you have already received the success notification.
  3. Right click on SPA. Choose “File Transfer Manager”.
  4. Sort files by date.
  5. Look for the file that is similar in format to SPA__APM000xxxxxxxx_xxxxxx_date_time_data.zip with today’s date.
  6. Transfer this file to your desktop.
  7. Repeat steps for SPB, and then reply to this email with the 2 zip files attached.

237 - How to sleep in PL/SQL

The DBMS_LOCK package provides an interface to Oracle Lock Management services. You can request a lock of a specific mode,
give it a unique name recognizable in another procedure in the same or another instance, change the lock mode, and release it.

When you writing code in PL/SQL , you some times need to have logics for the application to sleep
before the next processing.   In PL/SQL you can use the below syntax  for this Syntax
dbms_lock.sleep(no_of_seconds) :

236 - SFTP public key authentication

You have few options other than using public key authentication:

    Use keychain
Use sshpass (less secured but probably that meets your requirement)
Use expect (least secured and more coding needed)

This is a sample on sshpass.

Need to download the package and install it into the linux box :
RedHat does not provide this package from RHN.

235 - Creare 64bit Virtual Machine in VMWare

If you want to create a virtual machine in VMWare ESXi5 or else. You need to modify the Server BIOS before that.

This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible sometimes.
That is "VT-capable". VT might be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS settings or the host has not been power-cycled
since changing this setting.
